Spending on Groceries

My husband did grocery shopping on the way home from work yesterday. We just got paid the other day so had our typical grocery money available – but since he knew the bonus was also available, he did major stocking up. He is fairly watchful of prices and spent (gulp) $520. That is a HUGE amount of money. BUT now our pantry is FULL (we had very few items in there before) as is the fridge, freezer on the fridge and our outside freezer. The outside freezer is very small, but nonetheless, it is full.

Next payday I hope to add more to the pantry and get our regular fresh items – milk, eggs, etc. I wish I knew of a way to spend less on milk, etc., because we buy organic. I know, it doesn’t really make sense to buy organic when you are trying to pay down bills right? Or does it? We eat better and we are rarely sick. Then again we are in the military and are lucky to have full healthcare coverage.

I started subscribing to the local paper as well – I plan on couponing more and being better about prices. I know that stocking up is a good thing if it is on good enough of a sale. But we regularly spent about $500 a month on food. That is a lot of money to spend on food. We are a family of four and my husband takes his lunch to work with him. I suppose it is understandable – which is all the more reason to use coupons!
