I got offered the chance to get “bonus dollars” – basically if you agree to get your refund (or part of your refund) in the form of a gift card, you could get 10% more.

I can’t imagine doing that. I suppose if we were earmarking our money for home improvements we may go for one with one of the home improvement stores. But I admit I burst out laughing thinking about walking into Starbucks with a gift card worth a few thousand dollars.
