Are Your Tax Records In Place?

I admit it, I’m not the greatest file-r of all time. I usually have a stack of papers that waits (and thus grows) for at least a month before I put it away. I do shred junk mail the day it arrives and pay all but one bill online. The other bill (water bill) I keep out and write a check the day it gets here.

We have so far received one statement that we need to file our taxes. Since we are military, we will be able to access my husbands W2 online later this month. But that means we have to wait for a student loan statement and our home mortgage statements.

But I just finished cleaning up my office and did all the filing. I am tired of the piles! I started a new file – 2006 Taxes – and put it at the front of my very small file holder. That file holder will only have maybe 10 file folders at the most. That’s what I think will work the best for me – only have the most essential files out. And it’s not like that stuff is super secret information – other then the tax stuff. I have address labels and postage, address labels I’ve torn from letters from people (amazing, people still mail letters! Hahahaha) so I can update my address book, and the rest are still empty until I decide what goes in there. I’ve already changed my mind twice.
