Well Laid Plans

We military people know we will end up moving so we end up renting houses and relying on landlords to fix problems. We save curtains regardless of how long ago we used them because they are great curtains and what if they will fit at the next place we live.

Of course if we own the home we hesitate in making it truly our own – crazy, fun paint? Hold off because what if the next people to buy the place don’t like it? Custom shelving? Is that really a good investment? Curb appeal is important, but what if we really don’t like to garden or weed or even mow for that matter? Of course the yard work does get done and in the end we are glad we did it.

And with knowing we will move, it’s always when will we move. Sometimes we know how long we will be stationed at a place and other times we don’t. Maybe we get stationed not knowing the job will move and thus we will move with it.

Or maybe, as in our case, a promotion will come up. Maybe that promotion comes up at such a fast pace we are left reeling with a list of what to do, panicking that it won’t all get done, and of course, in the end, it will all be fine.

We are at that point now. A promotion is around the corner. It’s there, I can see it, almost touch it – but it isn’t for sure or set in stone. And of course that means no real plans can be made – unless the plans are completely flexible. It leaves me with the daunting task of not telling friends or family, I hate to have to tell them all the details now and then turn around and say oh never mind it is this now.

And so we wait. We weed the front and edge by the driveway, make sure to mow the lawn and trim the bushes and that the flowers all look good. It is all about curb appeal after all!
