No Groceries This Payday

I still haven’t gone grocery shopping for this payday. Which is amazing because we got paid right before the New Year. At first it was because the commissary would have been closed for a few days, for the holiday and the regularly scheduled closing.

And then after that I thought that I would try to see how many dinners we could have without buying groceries.

I have had to run and buy milk, eggs, bread and cat food for the cat – but that’s it.

I’m seriously amazed at how much food we have. And still have. The freezer isn’t empty though it is low and the pantry is still fairly stocked. We are eating well – chicken enchiladas, chili, spagetti with meatballs and cheesy bread, lasagna,
Today I have to go back out and get milk, probably another dozen of eggs, more cat food (why do I not have this stock piled?), bread and a bag of potatoes.

Sure my husband has whined a couple of times (“what am I supposed to eat” – proving his love of convience foods!) – but I don’t understand why. He said the next time we go grocery shopping, the bill is going to be $400-500.

I’m obviously not taking him with me when I go.

I’m so happy that we have managed to not buy groceries! I knew we wouldn’t have to but to prove it really makes me excited. And besides, even if we do spend $400 next payday – we are still within our grocery budget (which I set at $500/month).

But I’m thinking we won’t spend that much. I’ve already made a list of what we need and before we go I plan on making a sort of inventory of what we have. I don’t want to stockpile frozen food because there is the chance of something going wrong with the electricity. Then you are out all of that food.

I won a book back in December in a contest and will review it soon. It is about using coupons!
