Credit Cards Changing Shape

I’ve talked about my first memory with my own credit card, but how about a memory of using someone elses card. My Dad has moved around quite a bit in the past 15 or so years and one of my brothers and I would always go visit him. He’s always been into natural products and is particular about shampoo and facial cleansers and such. Well, maybe not just natural products, but also slightly expensive ones as well.

I remember he used to have a Dillards credit card. We were at the mall and he gave it to me so I could buy some makeup or something (wow, what an impression – the buying and using of the card stuck with me but I don’t know what it was I bought!). I was so impressed that he would give me his card and not think twice. Not long after that I got my own Dillards card. Of course I lived in an area where you had to travel a few hours to get to Dillards, so there was no point of having one.

Every credit card I’ve seen has been the same shape it is today. I like the small credit cards that are available now though – you know, the little ones you put on your keychain? Of course that would pose a risk if your keys were stolen or lost.

Check out the new Mint credit card. It was introduced in 2003 and two versions were made available – a standard card and the MC2 card that has the bottom corner removed like this picture.

This is the first time the shape of credit cards in the UK have been changed in almost 40 years! This is a cute card and offers 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases until December. I really like the design of the card and wonder if other credit card companies will follow along?
